Leading Irish Lawyers join Maples and Calder

Leading international law firm, Maples and Calder, is delighted to announce that two more of Ireland’s leading lawyers will join the firm’s rapidly expanding team in Dublin.

The appointments of Barry McGrath and Nollaig Murphy, both recognised experts in financial services law in Ireland, are significant for Maples and Calder in Ireland, as the firm continues to strengthen both its team and service offering here, and the firm worldwide. This announcement also reinforces the practice’s growing reputation in the Irish market as it is the first time two senior partners at an Irish law firm have moved together to a competitor. These latest appointments follow the recruitment of Edward Miller, one of Ireland's leading corporate and private equity lawyers, to Maples and Calder in June 2008.

Barry McGrath | Investment Funds Specialist
Barry McGrath is an investment funds specialist who has recently advised leading international institutions, including Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Nomura, Barclays Capital and HSBC, on the establishment of investment funds platforms in Ireland. He is ranked by leading international law firm directories as one of Ireland's top investment funds lawyers.

Nollaig Murphy | Capital Markets Specialist
Nollaig Murphy is a finance and capital markets lawyer who specialises in structured and leveraged finance, securitisation repackaging and syndicated lending. He was recently nominated by international peers as one of only four Irish lawyers to be included in the International Financial Services Law Review's Guide to the World's Leading Capital Markets Lawyers. He recently advised on the buyout of the Mater Private Group as well as a number of winning structured finance transactions.
Since establishing its Irish office in January 2006 Maples and Calder has developed an experienced team of 110 people, most of whom were head-hunted from Ireland's "Big Five" law firms.

Andrew Doyle, Managing Partner, Dublin, commented "We are delighted to welcome Barry and Nollaig to the firm and look forward to working with them. Since establishing the Dublin office just two years ago Maples and Calder has experienced rapid growth and expansion in this highly competitive market. The unique expertise and experience that both Barry and Nollaig bring will facilitate our continued advancement. Our objective is not necessarily to be the biggest law firm in Ireland, but, to be, and to be known as, the best.”

Joint global Managing Partner, Julian Reddyhough added, “This is as strong a statement as one can make that we are committed to and, are delivering on, our objective of being a leading law firm in Ireland.”
